Roomguide: Lamps for Your Living Room

LAMPS FOR YOUR LIVING ROOM

Every home has a heart and mostly that heart is the living room. This is where you can find peace for reading, watching television or having spirited conversations in the evening. When finding lighting for your living room, remember that it is a room with almost endless possibilities. Depending on the shape and size of the room, you can choose many different light sources.

Most people avoid ceiling lights and hanging lights, because you typically won’t need light from above and don’t want pendants hanging in the middle of the room. This is why we recommend to have a look at our wall and floor lamps. This will give you an indirect, adjustable and moveable light, depending on the purpose you need it for. Indirect and cornered lighting is the most comfortable for watching TV or creating a cozy, ambient environment.

WALL LAMPS AND ADJUSTABLE LIGHT

If you enjoy reading in the couch, it might be a good idea to look for an adjustable wall light. These lamps come in many different shapes and sizes and is easy to install on both ends of the sofa. You might want to look at wall lights from Anglepoise , Bestlite and Schottlander . All of these are easily adjusted and come in different colors, so you can furnish the room after your taste.

If you don’t need direct, angled lighting, there are plenty of innovative and beautiful wall lamps with indirect lighting.
The VV Cinquanta Twin from Italian Astep is a double lamp directed against the wall, giving an indirect light in two directions. If you need to, the heads of the lamp can be turned for a more direct light. This lamp is truly different and offers a unique aesthetic, perfect for the back wall behind the couch or TV.

If you have a more minimalistic taste and you want to hide the lamp in a natural way, Astro offers plenty of box wall lights and spots in a discrete design, that offers you functional lighting without taking up space or drawing attention. This is useful if you want to avoid filling up the room with floor lamps or classic wall lights.

FLOOR LAMPS FOR READING

Lastly, we will take a look at floor lamps. These are perfect for bringing ambience to your living room or providing functional light for reading in an armchair. You can use floor lamps in a TV-corner behind the screen, if you prefer a lit wall behind the TV. This can be a great solution for avoiding screen reflection and it relaxes the eye to have ambient lighting behind the harsh light from the TV screen.

If you’re looking for a reading lamp next to your armchair we recommend Flos Arco , Nuura Blossi or the GUBI Grossman Cobra . These lamps are tall with a directed screen, giving off a pleasant, yet directed light, making them perfect for reading.

AMBIENT LIGHTING

If you’re searching for ambient lighting behind the TV or in the corner of the living room, you could choose a lamp with a sculptural look. Many of our floor lamps has a beautiful design that acts as an extra designer installation in the room. We can recommend having a look at the beautiful floor lamps from Danish Tom Rossau , made from birch wood, giving off a beautiful light. These could also be combined in different sizes in a corner, to give a complete sense of the design.
If you like daring design, take a look at Tom Dixon’s collection “Melt” and his chandelier lamp that features beautiful glass bubbles of LED lighting, that really catch your eye.

If you’re looking for a third option, have a look at the selection of cool LED-bulbs from Tala. These bulbs can be hung in a cluster from the ceiling, to give the same ambient lighting. This look has proved extremely popular over the last few years and if you choose a 2200K LED light, you will have a warm and inviting light that goes perfectly with almost any living room.
