John Astbury has been inspired by various influences in the history of architecture, which is reflected in references to porticoes and colonnades. However, Atlas rests particularly on the fundamental post-and-lintel construction with posts and lintels. By combining these basic archetypes with simple geometric shapes such as the circle and the square, a composition and character is achieved that defines the Atlas table.
