LIMELIGHT 2: FRITZ HANSEN

FROM LIGHTYEARS TO FRITZ HANSEN

Fritz Hansen was founded in Denmark back in 1872 with a mission to create a timeless design of utmost quality. Since then, Fritz Hansen has created furniture classics. Fritz Hansen has a tradition of colloborations with recognised designers; among others Arne Jacobsen, Christian Dell and Hans J. Weger, which has brought about the classics the Egg and the Swan.

The Danish design brand Lightyears became part of Fritz Hansen in 2015 which marked the beginning of Fritz Hansen Lighting. They produce lighting of the highest quality in collaboration with some of the leading designers in lighting. The lamps are created with great relation to the recognised traditions of Fritz Hansen where good craftmanship, timeless design and not least quality are valued. CARAVAGGIO BY CECILIE MANZ

The Danish designer Cecilie Manz is behind the iconic lamp series Caravaggio which she created for Lightyears. The elegant lamps are moulded in metal in the shape of the shade is the prominent feature of the Caravaggio lamp series. The shape of the shade is designed with soft curves with a feminin touch which gives the lamps an attractive expression. The Caravaggio lamp series is available as a pendant, wall light, table lamp and floor lamp which create a complete series of unique designer lamps. AndLight has gathered all the elegant lamps from the Caravaggio series for inspiration.

Cecilie Manz comes from an artistic background and grew up in a creative family. In 1992 Cecilie began her studies at the Danish School of Design where her interest in design and functionality grew. Subsequently, Cecilie has established the design studion Manz Lab where she creates unique designs of furniture, glas and lamps. The special thing about Cecilie's design is the she focuses on creating aesthetics and functionality while maintaining a simplicity in her designs.

"I work with things that carry meaning for me. My general idea is to always be able to argue for the justification of the designs that I make. The function is crucial and if I can't formulate a good reason for designing a new product, it's better to abstain from doing it." – Cecilie Manz

AndLight has previously done an interview with Cecilie Manz, from which you can find inspiration here.

THE BAUHAUS STYLE'S KAISER IDELL

Christian Dell designed what we now know as the iconic lamp series Kaiser Idell back in 1926. The design of the lamp series is characterised by the industrial expression which bears strong relations to the Bauhaus design. Model 6631 from the Kaiser Idell series has earned its status as one of the most recognised designs. Especially the table lamp has an iconic expression and has become the most famous lamp of the series.

The lamps from the Kaiser Idell series are produced in the highest quality and several colour variations. The Kaiser Idell lamp series is available as a pendant, table lamp, floor lamp and wall light.

The designer behind the Kaiser Idell designer lamps is the recognised German designer Christian Dell, after whom the Kaiser Idell lamp series is named. He is one of the designers who have played a special role and have greatly influenced the Bauhaus style. Christian Dell's design symbolises noble German design. Furthermore, his designs reflect the choice of exquisite materials and a fine technique.
