Celebrating Female Designers

Design Portrait: Signe Bondgaard,
Design student at Kolding Design School

Created by Anine Johnsen, March 4, 2026

Signe Bondgaard, a design student at Kolding Designschool, has always loved working with her hands. Growing up, she spent hours sewing, restoring furniture, and making unique gifts with her sister. Her talent caught early attention when a school project was picked up by a Danish design brand, giving her a glimpse of how her creations could move beyond the classroom. Today, she continues to explore design that is simple, tactile, and purposeful.

Where a Student Project Became Reality

As part of her first-year exam, Signe designed a portable outdoor lamp called the MOVA lamp. After completing the project, she shared it on LinkedIn. The post caught the attention of Dyberg Larsen - and what began as a student prototype soon evolved into a professional collaboration. Today, we are proud to present the MOVA lamp at AndLight
- a design that reflects how strong ideas can take shape even at the earliest stages of a designer’s journey.

Inspired by Nature

The MOVA lamp was designed to bring life outdoors, encouraging people to use every corner of the garden and connect home and nature. Signe focuses on simplicity, tactile materials, and timeless forms. For her, design shapes everyday experiences, not just objects.

“I believe good design begins with listening,” she says - understanding people, context, and how spaces are used before creating.

The Courage to Be Visible

The collaboration with Dyberg Larsen began because Signe shared her work. She emphasizes that visibility and initiative are essential in a fast-moving industry. “Don’t wait until you feel ready - you grow by doing.”

Her advice to young women in design: trust your perspective, share your projects, ask questions, and stay true to your ideas, even when working with many stakeholders.

From Sketch to Reality

A look at Signe's creative journey, where inspiration, sketches, and ideas come together to shape sculptural and functional designs.
