Mogens Lassen was a playful child who, influenced by his surroundings, constantly experimented with styles, basic shapes and materials. Saxe is a loving nod to the Nordic region's own materials and is an example of Mogens Lassen's special ability to finely combine function and aesthetics at a high level. As in Mogens Lassen's architecture, nothing in the chair's design is left to chance and everything is calculated down to the smallest detail. The thick, stretched leather wraps itself around the wood and forms an almost harmonious, organic shape. The rounded brass rivets along the back break up the otherwise austere look and exemplify that Mogens Lassen was not afraid to go against the grain and break with convention. While critics preferred to see new forms at the Cabinetmakers' Guild's exhibitions, Mogens Lassen maintained the value of the craftsmanship of the past, which he reinterpreted and made his own. "The cabinetmakers shake in their boots when they see me," he said.
